There are many opportunities for the senior students at Silkwood State School to become involved as a School Leader. In such roles, the students are invited to participate in activities that will assist them in developing their leadership skills and develop and demonstrate responsibility.
Throughout their leadership participation students learn about public speaking, organisational and team skills, growth mindset, problem solving and how to be a great role model.

The School Captains are responsible for representing the school at school and community events. The school supports these students in attending the GRIP Leadership Conference, hosting our ANZAC Commemorative Ceremony and our Awards Night. They are also responsible for conducting school assemblies, welcoming special guests and thanking visiting performers. School Captains liaise with the Principal, teachers and other leaders on various activities and issues.
The Sports Captains are sports leaders who assist to organise their team, sports equipment and build positive team spirit, attitudes and efforts. They perform public speaking at school and community sports events and at our Awards Night. The house teams are Barnard and Ellison (named after local coastal islands).
Our school has a vibrant and enthusiastic Student Council who facilitate and plan fundraising events to raise money for specific school items and community appeals. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body. They help share student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community. Students also learn about how meetings are conducted, discussing issues and the process of voting to make a collective decision.
